Review Hartley's Glitter Jelly

Son number 4 once described me as "a happy little fat girl trapped inside a Mummy body" I loved this description as this is exactly what I am. Today while shopping for milk, a pin cushion, and a torch ( a random list I know) I stumbled across a new jelly and nearly peed with joy!

Oh-my-gosh jelly and glitter combined!
What unicorn loving boffin decided to think up that one at H.Q Hartleys?

It had to be bought and I was to become the best Mummy alive as my youngest loves all things glitter also.

Son number 1 "What a load of crap you buy!"
Son number 2 "Can't see that being good for you eating glitter Mum"

At this boiling of the kettle, tearing of the packet stage I was still so excited. I began to stir the jelly and it dawned on me that I had not read the ingredients, I was blinded but one word "Glitter" I am a consumers dream, throw in the keyword and the bitch will lose all sanity.

Now being a cake baker I remember a big faffing incident when decorators were putting all sorts of twinkle on their cakes to make them bling. Guidance was hammered down by The Food Standard Agency and many people obtained a slapped wrist (link here if you are interested)

Blah blah Sugar..Tripotassium Citrate  hmmm I drink this when I wee glass when I am unwell with cystitis, can cause stomach cramps, Carageenan this little one always crops up and as people see it in stuff such as Amond milk they presume it is natural.

“Although derived from a natural source, carrageenan appears to be particularly destructive to the digestive system, triggering an immune response similar to that your body has when invaded by pathogens like Salmonella. The result: “Carrageenan predictably causes inflammation, which can lead to ulcerations and bleeding,” explains veteran carrageenan researcher Joanne Tobacman, MD, associate professor of clinical medicine at the University of Illinois School of Medicine at Chicago. She says the food ingredient irritates by activating an immune response that dials up inflammation. Her previous work showed a concerning connection between carrageenan and gastrointestinal cancer in lab animals, and she’s involved with ongoing research funded through the National Institutes of Health that is investigating carrageenan’s effect on ulcerative colitis and other diseases like diabetes.

The concern over food-grade carrageenan isn’t new. Beginning in the 1960s, researchers started linking the ingredient to gastrointestinal disease in lab animals, including ulcerative colitis, intestinal lesions, and colon cancer.”  (source)

Beetroot red is natural, Annatto is derived from the seeds of the aciote tree and the  oooer titanium dioxide

“The American Cancer Society has listed Titanium Dioxide among the five most carcinogenic substances on the planet. It is considered a cause of Asthma, cancer, kidney disease,  Alzheimer’s and fertility loss. There are many animal studies on the Internet linking this chemical to the above diseases.” (source)

“Titanium dioxide has recently been classified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) as an IARC Group 2B carcinogen ”possibly carcinogen to humans”. Titanium dioxide accounts for 70% of the total production volume of pigments worldwide. It is widely used to provide whiteness and opacity to products such as paints, plastics, papers, inks, foods, and toothpastes. It is also used in cosmetic and skin care products, and it is present in almost every sunblock, where it helps protect the skin from ultraviolet light.” (source)

Remember in the 80's when they fruit flans were trendy? The sponge base and fruit arranged on top with jelly that was not really jelly, well this is the sort of thing that I am now dissolving in my pyrex glass jug..(a.k.a.Chemical shite)

One packet made only three small jelly cases of jelly, hardly enough to get excited about and I had to maneuver around the house to find the best day lit spot to catch a glitter sparkle.

Sorry, my little number 5 but I value your inside more than I do waste 75p on a dollop of rubbish.

The lot went in the bin and my days of jelly and glitter are over. (for now)

Disclaimer: I am not a complete 100% organic- I only feed my kids food that is cooked by Jamie Oliver and drink milk squeezed from the breast of a virgin-vegan grown in a twee country village. I am a normal Mum with five kids and believe me there is nothing more annoying in life than the plastic fake organic Mum who has to tell the world her toddler only has filtered water in its sippy cup and bitches about chicken nuggets. But this is crap so save your 75p

Let me know if you use this product and what you think?

Love and gentle hugs to you all
